A Cell.
Cells are a type of Process. They are spawned upon the destruction of any type of Process except BadCells. While they are immobile and do not attack, if left to sit for a few seconds they will transform into either the Process they originated from or a BadCell. Red must collect them before their respawn timer fully counts down.
Appearance
Cells are composed of four downward-facing triangle-shaped pieces of white metal, the tips of which are black, and a translucent red eye-like orb encased within a spherical piece of white metal. The spherical component floats above the triangular components. As they hover above the ground, the four downwards facing components spin continuously.
Behavior
Cells are passive and immobile, serving only as a respawn point for terminated Process or Badcells. A timer beside each Cell counts down for 10 seconds before a Process respawns. Red is able to collect them from a short distance away.
Several Functions affect Cell behavior:
- Installing Get() as a passive Function in the Transistor allows Red to collect Cells from a greater distance.
- Installing Switch() as a passive Function spawns friendly versions of BadCells that fight beside Red every time a Cell is collected.
- Installing Help() as an upgrade to most Functions will give the upgraded Function a 50% of preventing Cells from spawning upon defeating a Process.
- If Help() is installed as an upgrade to Switch(), Switch() will spawn friendly BadCells upon use.
Several Limiters affect Cell behavior:
- If Resilience is installed, then Cells will have a red shield around them that has to be broken before they can be picked up.
- If Abundance is installed, then the Process will sometimes spawn twin Cells upon termination.
- If Initiative is installed, then Cells will respawn in much less time.
- If Legacy is installed, then Corrupted Cells will spawn upon a Process' termination. These Corrupted Cells deal damage on contact, but will simply be destroyed after a short time instead of respawning.
Trivia
- When defeated, YoungLadies will spawn a multitude of Cells, which will respawn exclusively into BadCells much more quickly compared to other Cells.
- Friendly Fetches created with the Help() function can also collect cells.
- Unknown remarks that collected Cells go "back where they belong," suggesting that the Process may originate from inside the Transistor.
- Royce Bracket can be seen holding a Cell in his Function Files.
- Cells can be seen in the backgrounds of Transistor's Steam Trading Cards.
- Cells are internally referred to as "eggs".
- Cells are one of the only forms of the Process to lack an associated Limiter, the others being Operators and The Spine.
