Backdoors are secret portals scattered throughout the city of Cloudbank and accessible only to individuals with the Authenticator Permission. No matter where they are located in the city, all Backdoors lead directly to Sybil Reisz's Sandbox.
Description
The Backdoors were used by Sybil Reisz to provide access to her private Sandbox. Invisible when dormant, they appear and activate when approached by an authorized user, manifesting as tall rectangular doorframes whose interiors shine with blue-white light.
Red gains the Authenticator Permission at User Level 4 after collecting Sybil's Trace at the Empty Set. After this, any Backdoor she approaches will activate automatically and offer access to the Sandbox.
Locations
There are six Backdoors in Cloudbank:
- Goldwalk: on DeBesis Pier after Red's first battle against Snapshots
- Goldwalk: between Floating Point's overlook and South Frustrum Road
- Highrise: in the Alcove off Jallaford Square
- Highrise: on the left side of Bracket Towers Concourse near the Maintenance Wing
- Goldwalk (again): between Goldwalk Plaza and the passthrough to Goldwalk Thoroughfare
- Fairview: In Fairview Woods, where the Current goes to X = 1698, Y = 164
Trivia
- Red must enter the first Backdoor she encounters in order to progress, but subsequent Backdoors are optional.
- Although Red passes the location of the Goldwalk Thoroughfare Backdoor while traveling from Goldwalk to Highrise, the door remains invisible because she does not yet have the Authenticator Permission, and only activates after she returns to Goldwalk later in the game.
